For my music videos, I tend to prefer to use prop guitars, guitars that don't really work, and maybe can never be fixed. More than once I've had the strap come off and the prop hit the ground. (No musicians were harmed in the making these videos. Not yet!)
I've totalled one drone already. That hurt. I had to slog my way through knee deep mud at the riverbank to get it back. Leave no drone left behind. It wasn't cheap to replace, either. Buy the insurance.
I dropped the acoustic bass one time. I had two straps on it and they both came off. Watch the event here.
I put an ear pod on and listen to the song while filming. It can get tricky, since I'm a one man team, but the AI in the drone is impressive, as well as the stability. I use a DJI mini 4 pro drone with 4k video. I edit the video in Blender.
I've learned how to launch and land the drone with my hand, as there isn't always a great place to take off. I prefer to film away from the public, which means I often load up all my gear, drone and bass, on a bike and ride to a remote place in the mountains.
I choose to use the bass guitar in the videos because visually it's easier to identify. I started out wearing a yellow hat because I'm easier to spot while flying the drone. Then I started switching hats because it helps me remember where and when I made each section of video.
Overall, making videos is a lot of fun. You've just got to get out there and be bold.
